Sarah Edkins spent her formative years in the United Kingdom.
Before earning her B.A. degree in fine art at the Falmouth
School of Art in Cornwall, she worked as a puppeteer. She
moved to San Francisco in 1980 to start her career in set
design, working as a mural and house painter as well as
a scenic artist. After designing her first solo shows there,
she then moved to New York to attend Tisch School of the
Arts at NYU and obtained a M.F.A degree in Theater Arts.
In 1991, she was awarded an NEA Designers Fellowship. She
has designed sets, mostly for experimental groups in the
New York City area in many of the non-traditional performance
spaces such as The Ohio Theater, The Kitchen, La Mama and
She also works as a teaching artist at schools
in NYC. She has ongoing work as an event designer and creates
inter-active installations for The Scandinavia House and
